The
complete resource to help parents and professionals include ALL kids in summer camp
As you
move from sitting to standing, the line of gravity shifts forward to be over
the new base of support.
As you move
outside you base by bending, reaching or twisting, you are thrown off-balance.
The effort to keep your line of gravity over your base of support places extra
demand on the muscles and joint of your back.
Using a
wide stance and moving by shifting weight from one leg to the other, enables
you to maintain your balance with minimal effort.
Remember:
* Use a wide base
* Bend your knees NOT your back
* Fixate at your trunk (hold your trunk still
as a unit)
* Tuck your chin in
* By spreeading your feet
and widening your base, you create a larger area in which to shift your weight
without losing your balance.
By
bending your knees, you bring the centre of gravity closer to the ground. This
will increase your stability.
